Howdy

Hi! I've only recently taken up making plushies, and sewing for that matter, but I really really love it and I thought I might share with you friendly folk one of my newest buddies.

This wee fox is called Rufus, he likes to try and hide in the broccoli (which is a bit silly seeing as only his eyes are the same colour). He has a bit of a stealing complex where he will take pretty things and hide them in secret places, but then feel bad, and start crying, and we'll have to go and give the things back to their rightful owners. He loves eggs, and badminton, as well as idolising Louis Armstrong and all them jazzy cats.

He has a really sweet bushy tail too, but it's a bit hidden in this photo *sigh.

Yup!

BRAINS!

Ever since I posed my last frogs holding their heads in their hands, an idea has been brewing. Thanks to Amy for suggesting the use of magnets—this guy's head and left leg are removable, and magnets make it possible to play and pose endlessly! Some possibilities:

This creation also marks my first foray into making plushies with more three-dimensional faces. I had a blast needle-felting the frog's eyes, eye sockets, nostrils, and mouth.

I should have known, though, that zombies are very clumsy and accident-prone:

Whoops! The area around my desk is a little less safe (not to mention less neat!) now that a zombie has moved in.

Holy Chicken(pants)!

It's a Chickenpants milestone! Introducing...the 100th Chickenpants!

****confetti! trumpets! applause! more confetti!****
OK, OK, I know that during the Pirate/Ninjapants epoch of September, we actually went up and over the 100 Chickenpants mark. And I totally intended to do this sooner...but here, without any further foot dragging, is the HUNDREDTH CHICKENPANTS!
His name is Centro. He's a mathematician with a thing for Brazilian music.
He's sporting black and white checkered pants (not unlike an old pair of Vans), a black and white paw print belt, and a yellow star button belt buckle. He's made from that amazing nubby fleece that the first Chickenpants were made from, too.

Thanks everyone for encouraging me to keep going with my obsessive plush chicken making!

Question from a Reader...

Hello, Needle lovelies!

We're received a great question at The Needle inboxes. I think this is a great question, so I'm posting it here.

"Would anyone be able to give me some info on getting started? For example, would a sewing machine make my life easier? Are there any good books to get started? Or a blog for beginners?"

Please share your expertise by leaving a comment below.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Gnarlin Carl- The Hobo Hobgoblin
Carl was once just another little Hobgoblin sleeping under the sink and riding the cat around the house. But there comes a day for some Hobgoblins when their growth spurt kicks in! It doesn't happen to all of them but for some unlucky Hobs they grow and grow until some of them are the size of a small child. You can never tell which Hob out of a litter it might be but when the day comes that they are too big for their home. Then they have to venture out in to he world for a larger home to live in. But for some they are so big they never seem to fit anywhere so they just end up traveling all over the country in search of adventure.

Deer Plush

I've been sewing like crazy to complete deer plushies in time for the holiday rush. I've re-designed my deer plushies to be bigger, I've enhanced certain features (like their noses, ears and legs), and I think they're cuter, too! ^_^ Each of them have their own unique character backstories (like all my plushies do). This is Chocolate Deer:

"Chocolate Deer is a famous Chocolatier at the local chocolate shop in Deerville. This shop is known for its groundbreaking new flavour combinations. Chocolate with berries and acorns is the most popular type of truffle amongst her fans."

You can read more of their backstories here.

And last but not least, here's an in-progress photo of my work space. (I have more pics of my studio here.)

Thanks for looking!

Half Past Midnight, A Witch's Cat

Here's a little kitty that I just finished named Half Past Midnight. The witch who owns him named him that because he's not exactly black - he's navy blue. The same color blue that the sky turns when it's lit by a pale blue moon which isn't that often you know. He's also got the most peculiar marking in the shape of a star over one eye. That's the eye he winks when he he wants to do magic. He also has an extra long tail that he swishes at the same time to increase his magical powers. Mystical, yep. Cute, you betcha.

Hobgoblins

I've been making Hobgoblins for a while now.
Here are a few of my newest ones.
Ocho
This is Ocho the Hobgoblin. He loves to count. He knows how many grains of rice there are in the kitchen canisters. He knows how many socks you have and of course that soft clicking nose you hear late at night is Ocho quietly counting all your loose change in that jar. Cause really who doesn't have a big jar of change somewhere?
He is off in Arizona at the Dia De Los Plush show at Red Hot Robot
Snak
This is Snak the Hobgoblin. They call him that cause he has never told anyone his real name. He never talks, only eats. He loves all the goodies most people would shove down the garbage disposal. He has even been known to hide under the sink and disconnect the pipe so all the rotten food mess goes straight to his mouth. Kinda gross but
he loves it.
Sniff
This is Sniff the Hobgoblin. He loves all things stinky. Dirty socks always seem to disappear around him. Sometimes he can even be found laying in the trash making garbage angels.
So hug him and love him, but beware the smell.
He is a custom already off in the mail as trade for
sweet custom saftey eyes provided by enamieyes.etsy.com/
Glum
This is Glum. As you can imagine he is a rather sensitive Hobgoblin. Drippy faucets make him cry and you can always find him outside after it rains moving poor little worms from the hot sidewalk back into the grass.
this is a custom emo Hobgoblin for the amazing Lorell over in Australia. He's for her daughter for her 17th birthday.
Mope chillin like a villain
This is Mope the Hobgoblin. As you can see Mope is a rather solemn fellow. He likes to sit oustide on the cold sidewalk and softlyhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif sing Biz Markie's "Just A Friend" to himself. He thinks no one likes him cause of his big nose but secretly the ladies think he's quite a cutie.

He is the only Hobgoblin currently for sale.

you can find every HObgoblins I've ever made over in their set on my flickr.

Frank N. Stein

Frank N. Stein is a gentle soul who loves to spend time roaming through the forest where he lives. Unable to remember who created him, but full of joy to be alive, Frank decided that forest life was where he belonged. He spends his time wandering through the forest, helping out where he can. The best part of each day he spends sitting motionless against a tree, watching as the forest creatures go about their lives. Frank's favorite memories are of the times when birds and squirrels use him as a perch. He could listen to birdsong for hours and never tire of it.

I made Frank in honor of Halloween, to see more pics, head on over to my flickr.

Frank is now available in my etsy shop!
