It Came from beneath the Sea

Behold Edmund, another ferocious monster from the dark depths of the sea:
Mini_sea_monster_2
Edmund is about 35 percent smaller than my previous sea monsters—I wish I had a larger one on hand to photograph him with so you could compare—but he's no less terrifying . . . to fish, at least.

I think he's pretty awesome, but I think he still needs something. A toupee, maybe? What do you think?

New Squid on the Block

Introducing Plushroom Soup!

Hi Needlers!

You all know me as one of the makers behind Crabtree Studio (Jessica@Crabtree Studio). It's been a while since I've posted. What have I been up to, you ask? I've been working on launching my own brand, Plushroom Soup!

Plushroom Soup will feature many of the same softies you've come to love from Crabtree, but with a twist. I've realized that the softies I most enjoy making are monsters, fairy tale and fantasy creatures, and anything odd and a little off-beat. A sneak peek of what's been stewing:

I have lots of other new stuff brewing too, and I can't wait to share all the goodness with you guys in the coming months!

In the meantime, head over to the new blog for a contest to win one of two new plushie patterns!

Holiday Rabbits!

New to Rabbit World, these rabbits are all ready for December! From left to right: Clarence, Ivy, Holly, and Nick. Clarence owns the local hardware store, while roommates Ivy and Holly work in the botanical gardens. Nick is the new guy in town, who already has the reputation as something of a "player." You can see it in the way he dresses, the expression on his face, and the way he stands. Look out ladies!
All will be available in my etsy shop!

Hope all the Americans had a great Thanksgiving day! :D

Monstrously Nice to meet you!

Hi there, y'all!
My name is Michal Wright-Ward and I'm new here, to theneedle.org. I've been kindly accepted to post on this blog and I'm so excited.
Who's me? I'm a character designer and plush creator from LA, CA. I've participated in Plush You, Dia de Los Plush, Plush It! and more. I love the plush scene, how creative and original it is. We're such cool folks, aren't we? ; )

anyhow, these are some of my favorite pieces of what I made this year, they're the "Monstrously Nice" gang from Crammed Organisms: Yorick, Olaf, Igor and Stella. They only look cute, but they're actually quite evil.
Enjoy!
Michal

I hope all the Americans are having a Happy Thanksgiving! If you're not celebrating it today, I hope you have a great weekend! : ) Anyways, I just wanted to show the two new deer I've made:

Banana Blueberry
Banana Blueberry Deer is a successful interior decorator in Deerville. She loves to decorate in a retro design scheme with very bold colours. Her favourite addition to any room is a hanging bubble chair.

Orange Fizz Deer
Orange Fizz Deer works in a soda shop where he sells all kinds of sodas from around the world. His favourites are Jarritos from Mexico, Spetzi from Germany, and Orange Crush from the USA.

Thanks for looking!

Well, I was looking through my old stuff on my computer and I came across this piece I wrote about my friend Zeke. It is a walk thru for how I do my plush and how I put everything together technically. Enjoy! Although he is already living in hos new home I can always put together another 555 chip for someone that just can't live without it :)

I have been wanting to explain what I mean by double and triple sewing when talking about my plushies. I decided to use one of my newest creations, Zeke, as an example of how I put these guys together.

I started by choosing my fabrics, I chose to back my black cotton with white canvas so there would be more structure for the shape considering it is meant to be a square :)

Once I chose my fabric I began to piece things together starting with the feet then doing the top and bottom.

This is Zeke with all four of his sides put together. I stuffed the legs before I sewed them on and I made sure to leave a little space towards the top so they could hang down and not stick out.

This shows what I mean by double stitching. Every seam of each of my plushies is like this so that even if they take a beating ( which I never suggest) they will be able to come out of it unscathed :) Also, the canvas helps to make it even sturdier.

This is Zeke ready to be stuffed. Before I begin stuffing him I arrange where his eyes will be, then carefully attach them. I only use safety eyes, they look good and they are super duper durable.

This is the finished product!!! he's great and wonderful, :) Any questions? comments please feel free to contact me. I hope this was helpful. check out my blog: www.visforviolet.blogspot.com

TKBfOS

Dear the needle.org,

I wanted to make something simple. So I've made some bunnies.

TKBfOS stands for Telepathic Killer Bunnies from Outer Space. Is that what they are? I can't be sure that they're not.

Sincerely,
vickangaroo

happy bunnies

It's been a while since I posted on the needle - I've been a bit busy cramming in all my spare time for craft fairs, but the pressure is off a little now, so I'm back, with this little pair of happy bunnies - made from felted jumpers (sweaters if you are in the US).

Percy

Percy started out looking a bit like an owl... then he began to look like a penguin. Maybe a bit of mixed ancestry... Percy loves to be entertained - he likes it best when people read him books, but he's also a fan of watching documentaries - particularly those relating to animals. His secret guilty pleasure is watching food shows (normally he's a pretty smart cookie, but when he gets hungry, he sometimes pecks at the screen trying to get at the food - if he ever gets caught, he gets very embarrassed)

more bunnies for me!
