Odd Dotty

I have something to share! I make teddy bears, it's a very peaceful occupation. One that keeps me slightly sane.
A little about me and my therapy... er... ahem I mean one of my teddy bears.
His name is Ol' Plain and Brownish, because he is.
But don't let the fur fool you, this little guy is deep and thoughtful. Plain and Brownish he may be... but inside beats a poet heart. He feels deeply and applies his beautiful spirit to the wounds of the sad world, he is after all a teddy bear. It is his calling. He is about 8 inches tall, (half of this is his Ol' head!) I hand dyed the mohair, and the soft cashmere wool I used on his arms and legs.
I love creating teddy bears.

ballerinas

Over the last several months I've been designing a monthly feature pattern - fun clothes to fit my little toys. I started with a simple cabled cardigan, then a set of hats, a sweet fairy-tale dress, and lederhosen (just because). April's pattern is for a leotard and lacy tutu.

I started the feature pattern because people kept asking for the different clothes I was knitting for my toys. But keeping up with a whole bunch of extra patterns in my shop seemed like too much, so I decided to sell each pattern for one month only. Then when I had done five, I would put them all together in a bundle and keep that in my shop. So I would only ever have one more pattern to keep track of.

It's been so successful, not just because people like the new clothes, but because I'm always pushing myself to come up with new ideas and new ways to make things. I'm super proud of the leotard, because I had to design it from scratch - none of my previous patterns looked anything like what I wanted. It took me about four tries to get the first version, and with some small changes I got the final design just right - and you can make it in 3 sizes!

Scruffy Lion

This is Scruffy Lion. He's yellow and purple and a bit dishevelled. Although his mane is pretty wild and unkept, he's actually quite friendly and tame for a lion.

Scruffy is all hand-stitched and is quite small. He's about 3.5 inches tall and 4.5 inches long. He's made from felt, fluff and an old bit of flower-patterned silky fabric from an unwanted scarf.

Syd (Dolls for Friends)

Syd

ZZZZAAAAPPPPPPP!!!! Our lights dimmed heavily.

ZZZZZAAAAAPPPPP!!!! Our lights went out.

We rushed outside to see what the commotion was to find this little beauty perched on the bottom of our bug zapper. We were so surprised, and more than a little myphed at what we were looking at. I had to actually consult my rare collection of flora and fauna reference guides to even begin to get a hint of what she was.

It turns out that she's a Northwestern reticulated Electro-Rhopalocera. In other words she is one of the only nocturnal butterflys known to exist. They, like other butterflys, feed on nectar at night, yet they are also able to store large amounts of electro-kinetic energy as defense mechanism against predatory creatures. They are harmless to humans, but could be considered harmful to other animals of a lesser size if construed as being a threat.

After tripping the breakers in our house we brought her in to feed her some mangoes and honey. She has now been with us for two weeks. We call her Syd.

G. Wilikers (Dolls for Friends)

G. Wilikers

Mr. Wilikers has long been a staple in the upper crust elite of England's finest social circles. Born with the finest pedigree and every opportunity at his disposal, he's made use of his vast wealth (he's a trust fund baby) and knowledge to create a very comfortable and regimented lifestyle. While his proper and methodical habits could be construed by some as being annoying, after a few days they become more tolerable and eventually can end up being quite comforting.

He will keep his hosts up for hours spinning wonderful tales on the history aristocratic life, and he knows the dirt on just about everyone. As a matter of fact it was rumored that G. Wilikers was deemed SO proper and SO wealthy that he was approached as being the original mascot for the world-famous game Monopoly. It was felt, however, that a more "normal and traditional" image should be used, so it was a no go. Oh well.
