I have a super simple Kenmore machine I bought at Sears a couple of years ago. At the time, I didn't really know anything about sewing and didn't want to spend a small fortune on a machine I'd either never use again or have features I really didn't need. So now that I'm pretty committed to this sewing thing--and really enjoying it--I'm looking to upgrade.
I'm not really sure what I need other than something with more power, more stitch options (like an easier button hole feature), and maybe a machine with an arm that lifts high (stuffed fleece is super bulky)--the ones I've seen have been quilter's machines, but I'm not a quilter and half their options would go unused. I don't even know if I'd use any of the embroidery features, although embroidering eyes and mouths and whatnot by machine would make things go that much faster, especially since I am a crappy embroiderer at best.
So what's your machine, how do you like it, what sorts of things do you make with it, what machine would you buy if you could?

I have the exact same machine -- blue and everything. I've been wondering the same thing, as well. I'm ready to branch out!
my machine is only a really basic one, it is a huskystar which is/was a cheaper version of a husqavana viking. i bought it when i was a student doing a degree in weaving and embroidery, so it is about 18 years old. it is making a banging noise every time it sews and is probably in need of a service!.
if i had a choice, i would go for a bernina, the basic version is great (model 1008?), it is what i used at college.
I used my grandmas bernina for a few years and it was pretty good for being like 30 years old. So they last. I now have a Kenmore that is made by Jenome. I bought it through sears. Its pretty good. Has the button hole thingy and a bunch of different stitches. And you can adjust the speed which I like cause I tend to get crazy. I would say go to a shop and test out a bunch. They all feel so different. Good luck!
I have a basic Viking with a few stitches and I love it. It's as tough as nails and can sew through tough, thick mohair or fur without a hitch!
I have a basic kenmore as well and was wondering about a new machine. What is the best sewing machine for plush makers?
