Stuffing?

I am contemplating a bulk purchase of poly-fill as I look at the near empty bag on my table. Do any of you wise and creative artists have suggestions, experiences or advice regarding bulk poly-fill? I detest going to the store and juggling bags of the stuff and would love to have a big block of the white fluff delivered to my door. I await your responses and have to remark that I just love this blog and thank Claire again for the creation of and the invitation to join. Back to stuffing.

I think most craft stores have those big bulk boxes you can buy. I'm sure you could order it online from a number of places, but I'm wondering if the shipping cost would be worth it? The stuff isn't heavy, but the box is so big. When I'm running low, I've been known to substitute with things around my house...ripping up old pillows, comforters, or filling the toy with dried beans (hey...when you have a toy to stuff at 3 in the morning, sometimes you just can't wait for the store to open)

Pillows filled with polyfill are just fine - especially when you do not want to worry about shipping costs and need the have the stuffing Right Now :)

I've been buying giant 5 lb boxes at the local crafty stores. The polyfill seems to be the exact same stuff as in the small bags, with all the same stuffing properties. Plus, if you manage to hit it just right sales wise, it's not too hard to pick it up half off!

Cool. I never knew they sold it in larger amounts. I am going to have to check that out.

If you can find it , "mountain mist" is good filling. There is a difference , though in the texture of the fiberfill sometimes. Like "Fiberloft" stuffing can be so light and fluffy that it can be difficult to work with. The same goes for "Poly-fil" stuffing which can be great for super duper squishy plushies, but if you need stuffing that's easy to stuff into an opening and can really fill out a shape (like the body or face) , then "mountain mist" is probably the one to go with.
