Cool-Colored Sweater Monster Siblings

Sorry I haven't been around lately (craft shows, summer, life...blah, blah, blah). Here are some new sweater monsters! (they're from the same sweater...so they're siblings!)

"Ingrid is a huggable monster made out of the arm of a striped sweater with a scheme of cool colors. Despite her one-eyed, monster-like appearance, Ingrid likes to think of herself as a prim and proper lady. One of her favorite pastimes is attending tea parties and practicing her British accent."
"While his sister Ingrid is a prim and proper lady, Iggy is a little troublemaker and loves making mischief. His favorite pastimes are sabotaging his sister's tea parties and hiding people's socks. That favorite pair of socks you can't find?...Iggy probably hid them! Just look at that smile! You KNOW he did it!"

Iggy is actually my entry in my local Etsy team's Monthly Challenge. Pop over and vote in the poll on the upper-right corner of the page if you can spare a moment! (You don't have to register or anything! Just go and click!)

As always, there are more pictures at my blog.

Happycloud Thunderhead X Plushroom Soup

Yesterday, I met with Jessica Puckett Fishman aka. Plushroom Soup to exchange plush monsters and gab. I had a great time. Our collaboration/sewing swap was pretty simple, we both cut out 2 identical monsters. Then, we each made one ourselves and sent the other one off in the mail to be put together by the other person without instructions. Then we got together to compare the results. It turned out really fantastic.

custom puppets

Vamp

spiderbaby

Here are a couple custom puppets I made for Tom Rebello, after his awesome drawings. I had a lot of fun and frustration making these, but I'm pretty happy with the way they both turned out.

finger monsters

I made a bunch of finger monsters last week and I finally got around to taking photos of them. I think even monsters are cuter when really little.

Sweater Monster Parade!

Here come the sweater monsters! It must be the winter weather making me want to make cuddley, huggable monsters out of old sweaters.

This huggable guy went home with a fellow artist/vendor at an art show I did last weekend. He was definitely one of my favorites and was hard to part with. But I'm glad he's making someone so happy!

This monster is from the arm of the sweater the previous monster was made of. I just made her today.

I made this zipper-mouthed monster yesterday. He's the first monster I've done this with! The zipper goes to a little pocket on his front.

I made these two lover monsters (Valeria & Viktor Valentine) yesterday from a sweater my mom contributed.
This monster came from the same sweater as the above two. (one sweater goes a long way!) I finished up this one today at an art show I did tonight.

two new monsters

I'm currently knitting a bunch of traditional monsters, inspired by the album Monster Mash and the Monsters In My Pocket figurines of the late 80s or early 90s.

What more could anyone possibly need?

Nubbins on the Needle!

Hello! My name is Kira and I'm new to The Needle! My favorite plush to make is monsters! I started out making sock monsters, but have since branched out to other fabrics. I try to use recycled clothing, but like to get the occasional remnant of fleece from the bargain bin at JoAnne's.
With Christmas and New Year's and all the holiday craziness finally over with, I have finally gotten some time to make some new monsters! These are my newest "Nubbins". Nubbins are little bitty armless monsters that I originally made for something quick and easy that I could crank out in mass quantities so I could sell them for less at craft shows or on my Etsy shop. They love to be squeezed and petted and make great stress relievers! Just give them a squeeze, or throw them across the room, they'll love it! (and shouldn't cause too much damage!)
Like I said, I try to make them from only remnants...unless I get a special request for a color I don't have...like these black and grey ones I did for an alchemy request over Etsy...but I couldn't decide what shade of grey would be better, lighter or darker, so I made both!

Introducing Plushroom Soup!

Hi Needlers!

You all know me as one of the makers behind Crabtree Studio (Jessica@Crabtree Studio). It's been a while since I've posted. What have I been up to, you ask? I've been working on launching my own brand, Plushroom Soup!

Plushroom Soup will feature many of the same softies you've come to love from Crabtree, but with a twist. I've realized that the softies I most enjoy making are monsters, fairy tale and fantasy creatures, and anything odd and a little off-beat. A sneak peek of what's been stewing:

I have lots of other new stuff brewing too, and I can't wait to share all the goodness with you guys in the coming months!

In the meantime, head over to the new blog for a contest to win one of two new plushie patterns!
