Cool-Colored Sweater Monster Siblings

Sorry I haven't been around lately (craft shows, summer, life...blah, blah, blah). Here are some new sweater monsters! (they're from the same sweater...so they're siblings!)

"Ingrid is a huggable monster made out of the arm of a striped sweater with a scheme of cool colors. Despite her one-eyed, monster-like appearance, Ingrid likes to think of herself as a prim and proper lady. One of her favorite pastimes is attending tea parties and practicing her British accent."
"While his sister Ingrid is a prim and proper lady, Iggy is a little troublemaker and loves making mischief. His favorite pastimes are sabotaging his sister's tea parties and hiding people's socks. That favorite pair of socks you can't find?...Iggy probably hid them! Just look at that smile! You KNOW he did it!"

Iggy is actually my entry in my local Etsy team's Monthly Challenge. Pop over and vote in the poll on the upper-right corner of the page if you can spare a moment! (You don't have to register or anything! Just go and click!)

As always, there are more pictures at my blog.

Katie and her designer dog

I've been working hard these last few weeks making new amigurumis for my shop so I thought I'd show you one of them. This is Katie and her designer dog.
Katie is rarely seen without her designer dog, George. She loves shopping and so does he. He loves all the fuss and attention he gets from the people they meet in the shops and around the town and she loves clothes and shoes. She recently bought these Ugg boots and is loving how they keep her feet snuggly and warm.
Katie and other amigurumi dolls can be found in my etsy shop - outoftheframe.

Bruno's looking to be adopted...

This is one of my latest creations, using a recycled scarf kindly donated by a work colleague. His name is Bruno and is now waiting to be adopted by a kind person, who will look after him and cuddle him.

Hope you'll like him.

Zippers & Tongues

I'm sitting at Spot Coffee at First & Last: Arts & Crafts...hoping for a sale by the end of the night (it's been pretty slow so far).

I finished up a new monster while I was here...

SURPRISE! He has a tongue!
The tongue was actually an afterthought. I'd set him out on my table after I was finished with him, and later, after I'd finished up another monster and was putting it out on the table, I looked at my zippermouth guy and thought "He needs a tongue!"

"Say Ahhhhh!"...I felt like I was giving him oral surgery!

If no one buys him tonight, I'll be listing him in my Etsy Shop.

Puppets by Stacey Rebecca

There's an article in the Etsy Storque right now about the puppets of Stacey Rebecca. Even better, it's actually a video:

It looks like she incorporates a lot of the same techniques that plushiers do.

Added bonus: this little video made me think about puppets again. How long has it been since you've thought of puppetry as a form of expression?
Have any of you ever made puppets? Do you make them now? Did you grow up with them, or have a strange puppet experience somewhere along the line? I'd love to hear about it. Post about it in the comments! (I'll start.)

(And special site news p.s.: I'm moving again, so if I don't respond to your emails or comments, nothing personal, I just can't get to my computer.)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Chenille pups & such

Hello all! Thank you for having me as a part of your community. I have been having a great time being inspired by the wonderful creations everyone posts ☺ Now I suppose it is finally my turn to post something.

With two small children, a husband, and a new puppy, I have been finding it hard to make sewing time. Therefore, it was just the perfect time to pull out the out-of-print Japanese craft book I treated myself to at Christmas time and become inspired. I have been playing around with the techniques and making creations all my own.

Oh! Did I forget to mention that these are made from pipe cleaners? ☺
Check out my blog for more photos!
Again, thanks for having me... I hope to post something with needle/thread soon!

Crying CPSIA Nubbin (but with good news!)

I originally made this sad little Nubbin to dedicate it to the CPSIA...

...But that was before I heard about the most recent news from Etsy!
"We are so excited to announce that the Commission has voted for a "Stay of Enforcement of Certain Testing and Certification Requirements of CPSIA" — which means that they are proposing a 1 year suspension of the burden of lead testing and certification while they take more time to review the rules and plan enforcement! " Read the rest on Etsy's blog, "The Storque"
Finally, some truly good news! Hopefully, a year should be plenty for them to realize how ludicrously broad this law was, and to amend, rewrite, or repeal it!

Hello Everyone!

This is my first post and I'm excited to be part of this blog! My name is Cheryl and I make plush animal toys for friends and my Etsy shop, FeltSewGood, from felted recycled wool sweaters. This is Morgan the horse. His body, mane, tail and "saddle" were all made from felted wool sweaters.

I've been working on some new animal patterns and designs, but the horses are still some of my favorites. And this is Chester.

To see more of my work and my other felted wool creations, check out my blog. I'll be working on photographing some new plush animals later this week. I can't wait to share them with you and see what else you all are working on!
Happy Creating!

Spring cleaning

I think my house is in serious need of a Spring cleaning! I keep finding monsters hiding in dark places. I found this one in my closet eating a cupcake. Meet Hungry Bunny and his Carrot Cupcake. He may look vicious but as long as he has some munchies nearby he's perfectly harmless and loves to cuddle. He's up for adoption in my Etsy shop.

These two, Chinchilla and Cupcake were found behind the refrigerator. Who knows what I'm going to find when I start spring cleaning in the garage!

Dancy, a friend made from socks

“I AM THE ATOMIC POWERED ROBOT. PLEASE GIVE MY BEST WISHES TO EVERYBODY.”

There’s Dancy, stomping around with his ears in front of his face. He does this all the time. He flips his long, long ears over the front of his face, until they hit the ground. He can’t even see. Then he brings his curly red tail around the top of his head too, and pretends it’s a laser beam or something. Then he walks all over the room, proclaiming loudly who he is and what he wants to do. Today he is apparently a robot. He’s now repeated that line six times in the time it’s taken me to write this. Yesterday he was “THE LILY OF NEW PHILLY.” I don’t have any idea what that meant. But he wanted everyone to “TAKE A NUMBER, TAKE A SEAT.” Tomorrow he’ll probably be some sort of dinosaur or astronaut. Maybe a dinosaur astronaut.

Hey, Dancy, anything to say your new friends? “YES. TELL THEM I AM THE ATOMIC POWERED ROBOT.” Great. Well, dear friend, here’s the (ahem) atomic…powered…robot.

Meet Fuggerella!

Meet Fuggerella! I made her while making a softie tutorial for my blog. She is a little unhappy because she was afraid I'd turn her into a pin cushion! Poor girl!
