When Tugce was 5, her mother gifted a kitten to her. Tugce named the cat ''Yosi'' because of it's eyes were moss-like. They were having great time together playing games all the time. Even one day Tugce took Yosi to her kindergarten, but you know what, Yosi the ''curious'' just disappeared when it tours around. Tugce felt so sad and started to crying, what a cry! She cried her eyes out. Noboady managed to cease her tears. And then the day become evening. Tugce took the road to her school bus while she was holding a handkerchief with one hand because of she has snuffles and the other hand full with the pages of the coloring book has given as a homework. MCH Heart Felt Doggie Doll

This is one of several new Heart Felt Doggie Dolls, unfortunately the pictures of the others turned out really dark, but they are all similar in color. I am getting a lot of orders to use both brown/pink combination and bright colors.

I made this little film about Sophie Doll and Denise Deer before I sent them off. They love eachother.

Minnesota Doll Relocates to Guatemala

I designed this little doll so I could drop her in Antigua, Guatemala as part of the Toy Society's Valentine's Day toy drop. She has a little heart shaped mouth, black boots and beret, a flowery tunic, stripey socks, a wooly scarf, and a yellow wool felt coat with a peterpan collar. Certainly, too many layers to really be comfortable in the temperate climate of Antigua...but the hope was all that clothing might make her more fun to play with for some guatemalan child.

Zara's the Mermaid Witch's tail is made from recycled 1980's batik fabric. She is one of a kind and standing in front of an oil painting by Paul Cumes.

inner self Totem

I'm currently curating an exhibition for the Melbourne Fringe Festival called Totem: Dolls and Souls. The idea behind it is that over 100 artists have created a self portrait doll, not of how they look on the outside but how they feel about themselves or see themselves on the inside. It's an incredible exhibition, and it opens next week at Fed Square, for those of you in Melbourne.

And I couldn't curate a show such as that without making an entry myself

And I’ve been sitting in the studio and at home surrounded by all these incredible dolls and it’s slowly dawned on me that not only is Totem about self identity, like a vox pop of how a section of society see themselves, but it’s also a flagship for promoting modern craft practice. Each one of these dolls has been created differently, and there’s such a wide range of construction techniques that this really is a showcase of how varied craft can be. Craft isn’t just macramé plant holders and crocheted knee rugs anymore, it’s a hugely diverse and incredibly inspirational worldwide movement. And i just wanted to share my love with y'all.

Plush You 2008 (Dolls for Friends)

Elaina and Mungee are our submissions to this year's Plush You show in Seattle. It's our first time participating in this well known West Coast show, and we are very excited to have been invited to contribute.

Elaina and Mungee headed off on their short plain ride North from our studios in Portland, and hopefully, if all goes well, they will be permanently residing in Seattle or some other wonderful location by the end of October.

Squint (Dolls for Friends)

His name is his biggest tell, but we were unsure what else to call him. You see he's myopic in nearly every sense of the word.

Squint does not like to wear his glasses because of how he thinks it makes him look, but because he won't wear his glasses he won't venture out of doors, try new things or take a step outside of his daily routine (which takes place mostly indoors.)

We've pleaded with him, begged him and tried to rationalize the situation, but you know the old saying, "myopia is sometimes a window to the soul."

At this point, we're hoping that someone might be able to invite him over so we can have some type of low key intervention. We're out of patience and frankly, I'm tired of him bumping into the coffee table and spilling my ice cold Pepsi Free.

Ginger, The Whimsy Mermaid

Mermaids? In the Whimsy Patch? Evidently so! As I was taking a walk through the Whimsy Patch the other day, I found this precious darling sunning herself on a rock on the Whimsy Shores. For a moment, I just rubbed my eyes in disbelief. I knew there were Whimsy Fairies, Tooth Fairies and Sprites, Wood Nymphs and many other fantastical creatures, but I really had no idea that Whimsy Mermaids existed! I was very excited and sat down to have a chat with this lovely mermaid whose name turned out to be Ginger. She was resting after her afternoon seashell hunt. She had managed to find two lovely shells, an old starfish and a clamshell that had washed up on the rock. She told me that she collects them and sells them to boutiques like the one that Ruby and Posey own in the bohemian coastal villages. Because mermaids cannot live in the Whimsy villages, they find their living doing activities like seashell collecting and treasure hunting--which I hear is fascinating in the Patch. Whimsy Pirates? Yes, indeed, says Ginger. She had quite a few pirate stories for me that we enjoyed over a lunch of oysters and clams.

Raspberry Sorbet the Whimsy Fairie

You might guess that Raspberry Sorbet, Whimsy Fairie, would be an expert in the making of fine sorbets, but she is not. She actually specializes in the making of gelatos and custard tarts. She has the best little dessert shop in the Whimsy Woods, Absolutely Decadent, where she does not carry one single sorbet--much to the dismay of the lactose and ovo intolerant. She declares that rich and creamy is best and encourages you to step into here friend Lydia's sorbet shop, The Little Fruitery, if you prefer lighter desserts. While at Absolutely Decadent, you might find little trinkets to pick up along the way. She's into making Clothespin Dolls with the most wonderful fabrics and the sweetest faces.
